Miscellaneous Information
Lloyd was born on 4 April 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. His father, a Salesman, was born in Westbury-on-Trym, England and his mother, who was deceased by the time of lloyd's enlistment, was born in Stourbridge, England. He had a sister Joan, and brothers James and Alan who were with the R.C.E. (Royal Canadian Engineers. Alan F. was at Brandon and Corporal James W had served at Kiska. The schools he attended were Ralph Brown, Winnipeg 1921-1925 (Primary); Fleming, Brandon, 1925-1928 ( Regular); Earl Orford, Brandon, 1928-1931 (Entrance) and Brandon Collegiate 1931-1935 (Matric grade 11). Lloyd’s sport interests were fishing, skiing and canoeing. Between 1935-1938 he carried out various odd jobs. He then assisted the chief rangers in the Manitoba Forest Service During 1938 and also helped with the Whiteshell Forest reserve; then as an announcer operator at Kenora Broadcasting Co. 1939-1940 and a Salesman for Durance Motors in Kenora from 1940. |
Lloyd enlisted on 7 October 1941. he embarked from New York on 9 March 1943 arriving at 3 PRC on 18 March, 3 (P) AFU 18 May 1943, 22 OTU 13 July 1943, 61 Base 14 October 1943, and 426 Squadron 28 December 1943. He lost his life just six days later. |

Operation | Berlin. 383 aircraft, 27 Lancasters Lost (7.0%). Berlin was recognised as the target 40 minutes before zero hour and night-fighters were sent to a radio beacon rendezvous point between Hanover and Bremen but missed the bomber stream and were consequently redirected to Berlin. PFF losses were unusually high with 10 Lancasters being Lost from 156 Sqn. All in all, an ineffective raid, with bombs being scattered throughout Berlin. 82 houses were destroyed and 36 people killed. No industrial damage of note. |
